The Strokes ready for NorthSide 2027
Aarhus will welcome one of the most influential rock bands in the world when The Strokes take to the stage at Eskelunden on Saturday at NorthSide 2027. Having just released their seventh album, the band are among the most highly requested acts at the festival.
Few bands have had as significant an impact on the modern rock scene as The Strokes. Since their breakthrough with Is This It? in 2001, the New York band have left a lasting mark on rock music and inspired an entire generation of bands. With their raw, minimalist and uncompromising guitar rock, The Strokes quickly became one of the biggest acts of the decade, and more than 25 years after forming, they remain one of the most iconic rock bands of their generation. Now, they are coming to NorthSide this summer.
At just 36 minutes long, Is This It? was all it took to make The Strokes world-famous for their minimalist, unpolished and energetic sound. The lineup has remained unchanged since the band formed in the late 1990s, with charismatic frontman Julian Casablancas on vocals, Albert Hammond Jr. on lead guitar, Nick Valensi on guitar, Nikolai Fraiture on bass and Fabrizio Moretti on drums.
Since the early days of guitar-driven Is This It? and its follow-up, Room on Fire, The Strokes have continued to expand their musical universe. Synthesizers have entered the mix, and on albums such as First Impressions of Earth, Angles and The New Abnormal, the band have experimented with different genres, sounds and textures.
After 25 years — and a period of relative inactivity in the late 2010s, when the band members focused on solo projects — The Strokes are now back with their album Reality Awards. Guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. has described the album as follows:
“It’s my favourite album we’ve ever done. I can’t express how beautiful it is. I listen to the whole thing and wanna start from the beginning again. It grows and grows and becomes intoxicatingly good.”
The Strokes are not just an incredible live band. They have also had an enormous influence on the generation of rock musicians that followed them, and have been described as “as influential on their era as The Velvet Underground and The Ramones were on theirs.” Bands such as The Killers, Arctic Monkeys and Franz Ferdinand might not have found it quite so easy to break through if The Strokes had not paved the way.
Now it is NorthSide’s turn to welcome one of the biggest rock bands of recent times. Get ready for pure rock energy when The Strokes take to the stage at Eskelunden this summer.
